The 2026 Monmouth Film Festival (MFF) will present Untouchables, a powerful and inspiring documentary from filmmaker Sabbuur Ikhlas, as part of its 2026 program screening at Bell Works in Holmdel, NJ on Sun, May 31st at 1:00 PM
Untouchables tells the remarkable true story of Coach Derrick Hoff, the first Black head coach in the United States to win a state fencing title. Over the course of his 13-year tenure at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, Hoff led his team to multiple state championships while mentoring young athletes navigating the realities of inner-city life.
Facing significant economic challenges and entrenched racism within the sport, Hoff’s journey is one of perseverance, leadership, and transformation. Through his guidance, his students not only found success in competition, but also learned resilience, discipline, and what it means to be “untouchable” both on and off the fencing strip.
Rooted in New Jersey and deeply connected to its communities, Untouchables reflects the Monmouth Film Festival’s mission to amplify stories that matter—films that engage audiences while inspiring meaningful reflection and conversation.
