The 2026 Monmouth Film Festival (MFF) will kick off in unforgettable fashion as Lionsgate presents its highly anticipated new feature, Power Ballad, as the official Opening Night Film at Bell Works in Holmdel, NJ on Friday, May 29th at 8PM.
Starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, and written and directed by John Carney (Once, Sing Street), Power Ballad debuted at SXSW and delivers a magnetic, music-driven story. When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves - even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney (Sing Street, Once), POWER BALLAD is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.
Starring Rudd and Jonas - two New Jersey natives - deliver standout performances (and duets), capturing the fragile balance between truth and ambition with authenticity, charm and soul. Also starring in the film are Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu, and Jack Reynor; featuring music composed by Scottish musician and John Carney collaborator Gary Clark - be the first in New Jersey to experience Power Ballad ahead of its official wide release.
Power Ballad joins an exciting lineup of events at the Monmouth Film Festival, where Hollywood comes to New Jersey for an unforgettable weekend of red carpet moments, international premieres, leading industry voices, and cutting-edge cinema and broadcast innovation at the iconic Bell Works in Holmdel. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the excitement and join us for an unforgettable celebration of film.
